More Illness

Monday, December 17th, 2007

The doctor has diagnosed Dan-dan with the flu. He’s back home now, asleep in bed. Montessori called to say Camilla had a fever. She’s home now, watching videos. Gabi is OK (thank god), as is Baby Aaron. Back to bed with me …

Ed Wins the Football Pool Again! Go me!

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

Even after the Eagles beat my Cowboys, I still have enough points to clinch the football pool this week. I do need to point out the last plays of the Eagles, where they purposely did not score one last touchdown, was clearly done so that someone would win a bet based on a point spread. I can’t come up with any other reason why they did that.

Can you imagine? Someone betting money on football?

And how did I win? Miami!

Did I mention I won the pool this week? Go me!

Polar Express

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

When the book Polar Express first came out in the 1980’s, I thought it was a perfect example of raw, naked marketing. Kids like Christmas, right? And kids like trains, right? Let’s combine the two – it will be a hit! No one can resist buying it!

I didn’t think anyone would fall for it.

Dan-dan is a committed fan. While he has been sick, he’s watched it no fewer than eight times. And it is a very, very pretty train in the movie …

Sunday Status

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

Dan-dan had a relapse yesterday, with a fever and desire to stay in bed sleeping the whole day. He’s feeling better this morning, but still wants to drink water and sleep.

We canceled all of the weekend Christmas activities. We spent part of Saturday just sitting in the gazebo and reading, something we haven’t had time for in quite a while. Dad finished his videogame, Mass Effect, defeating the last boss and making it to the cinematic ending. Great game. Camilla has been watch Christmas videos.

Amazon Shopping …

… is done! We still have to do shopping for gifts for ourselves and local family, but all of the long-distance shopping is over for the moment.

Christmas Cards Are Done!

Gift Buying Guide

Friday, December 14th, 2007

Note that Apple was exceptionally generous to its employees this holiday season. Look for big things at MacWorld this year (first week in January). Time to buy Apple stock now …

On the Second Day of Christmas …

Friday, December 14th, 2007

… my true love gave to me, two more-or-less healthy kids staying home from school! The Big Ones claim to be healthy, and Gabi is keeping them home so they stay that way for our weekend festivities (San Diego and Los Angeles are both on tap).

Christmas cards are the biggest production of the season. From taking photos (“Sit straight!”, “Don’t stick your tongue out!”, “Baby Aaron threw up!”, “Daddy, see these balls I just pulled from the Christmas tree?” – do you wonder why Pappy is no longer in our holiday photos?), to printing, to writing the letter, to translation into Hungarian, organizing address labels, to stuffing and stamping – these 180 or so cards are a major production. Real Christmas in the Steussy household cannot get underway until those are done and out of the way.

On the First Day of Christmas …

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

… my true love gave to me, two sick kids! Dan-dan has a fever, Camilla is throwing up. Both are home from school today. And Dad has far more work than any other December since he started working in the games industry.
