I don’t think I’ve ever seen quite so strong a public panic as I have this morning. Fed cuts rates by 3/4 of a point one week before their scheduled meeting? That (and Bush’s extremely large one-time bread-and-circus handout of $1600 per family) smells more of panic than of measured action. But, hey, who am I to complain?

Market Panic
Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008Football Update
Monday, January 21st, 2008We saw our last football games of the season yesterday. It’s likely we’ll miss the Superbowl, and certain that we’ll miss the Pro Bowl. I’m happy to see both the New England Patriots and Eli Manning with the NY Giants in the contest this year. I have the Patriots in the pool, Cally has the Giants. The Giants are certainly much better now than they were during the season, and they did give the Patriots a hard time in the last week of the regular season. The Superbowl may actually be interesting this year.
For my Clients and Contractors
Friday, January 18th, 2008Just to make it perfectly clear to my Clients and Contractors who occasionally check this blog, nothing about Apogee Communications will change while we are in Hungary. We will still do business using California business hours, we already have high-speed servers and internet access arranged and banking is all set up. All of our phone numbers will continue to work; and my Nokia E61 will take the place of my current Blackberry.
We’ll be making a general announcement after the move, so that everyone can see that there are no differences.
New Server
Thursday, January 17th, 2008If you are reading this now, then you have successfully come to the new Steussy.com server. Welcome! We’re serving milk and cookies later …

Server Change
Tuesday, January 15th, 2008Sometime in the next few days, the Steussy Ranch (and some other internet properties) will be shifting to new ground. Currently the server running these sites is under my desk here in Temecula. As the family gets more mobile in the coming days, files will be moved to a new server professionally hosted in Los Angeles. Hopefully, you won’t notice any differences.
I put up a Facebook entry only early in December. No one responded to it in any way until today. I’ve had two queries in the last hour and a half. I think that people are logging in after watching a 60 Minutes episode.
For anyone who finds their way here from my Facebook entry, Welcome! That’s my dog, Pappy, at the top. The site has been active for over six months now. Let me give you a tour with a few of my favorite posts:

Colts lose! San Diego goes to New England …
At this point (prior to the NY Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys game), Cally, Andy, Rich and I are still alive in the pool. Since Cally has both the NY Giants and the Cowboys, she is sure to both win and lose this game.
Cheers to Cally and Rich for retiring their 30 year old TV and getting a flat screen HDTV for the playoffs!
Spelling in the Gazebo
Sunday, January 13th, 2008(1 min, 30 seconds)
We had a great party yesterday, with 21 guests coming to wish us off. A great time, with lots of kids running around and lots of adults to talk to.
More updates soon.
First Travel Entry
Thursday, January 10th, 2008
This is the first of the travel entries. There haven’t been any posts for the last few days, since we’ve been BUSY! Work has coming pouring in (not any more than we can handle, mind you, but far more than we’d expect from the January slow season). And preparations are being made to become fully mobile.
On the technology front: Steussy.com and a few other domains will be transfered to a new, outside dedicated server (purchased yesterday). The laptop has received a complete overhaul to ensure that it is robust enough to operate as a stand-alone Mac and a stand-alone PC. Back-up systems have been re-designed.
On the home front: Setting up something for Pappy has taken front stage. Our original plan, taking him to Hungary, has turned out to be ludicrously expensive and difficult, so we need to find something for him here in the US. Once that is determined, we move on to setting up the house for our six month absence and figuring out what few things will come with us in the move.
In Budapest: more frustration than anything else. The kids’ daycare (the first thing we nailed down back in September) is now up in the air. We’re seriously hampered by the low value of the dollar, so this will be a much less sumptuous journey than we initially imagined.
More details as things happen. Look for the Suitcase emblem.
