Superbowl

Giants win! Cally wins the pool. Most interesting part of the game – channel surfing during the terribly long halftime show and finding very old porn movies playing on the Hungarian equivalent of NBC. Much more interesting than aging rockers.

Sunday in Budapest

Staying at Great-Grandmas house has many advantages, but one big disadvantage is that I have no real access to the internet. The new cellphone allows me to get essential work email, but little else.

Today, we are at Cousin Judiths house, not far from the rest of the family. They have a DSL connection, so I can log on to add this entry.

I am cautiously optimistic about the new apartment going through. We have been in contact with the leasing agent every day this week. Tomorrow is lease signing and putting the deposit down. Internet access in the new place will be about 1/2 the speed of our Temecula fiber optics, which is not too bad and certainly adequate for everything we plan to do. Move in will be February 8 – look for lots of photos when this happens. If it does not work out, we have another two apartments waiting in reserve.

The Superbowl is going to be on tonight, starting at midnight local time. The last time I watched a Superbowl from abroad was 1995, when I watched from my hostel room in Seoul, South Korea after an airline delay flying from California to Vladivostok forced me to spend three days in Korea. We watched part of a replay of the Giants vs. Green Bay game last night – with Hungarian announcers. “The reason they call the Green Bay fans Cheeseheads is because of the color of their teams helmets.” – I do not think they have ever been to Wisconsin.

Yesterday, I bought tickets to be in San Francisco from February 16 until the 23rd for an industry conference, staying at Big Dans place. I only need to be there Tuesday to Thursday, but airline rules make any other ticket unreasonably expensive. I will be happier when Southwest starts flying over the Atlantic. Stupid rules mean that I have to miss Camillas third birthday.

Pardon the lack of puncuation in this entry – I am using a Hungarian keyboard, and I am not real sure where are the keys are.
