uniform

This is Camilla’s first school uniform. She went to Legoland Aquarium yesterday with Dan-dan’s class. She was so excited. Tomorrow: Disneyland. The first time.

Memorial Day in San Diego

Monday, May 25th, 2009

We spent Sunday of Memorial Day weekend with the Chris Steussy’s in San Diego. Here is Calvin playing with Dan-dan – these were really cool Playscool pirate boats! Hot dogs, gin and tonics, conversation, lots of kids running around. It was good fun.

Question

Monday, May 25th, 2009

When did we go from, “Do you have an email address?” to “What is your email address?” When did it become common to assume that everyone has one? I think it’s fairly recent – 2004 or 2005 – for the general population.

Igor and Julia

igor_julia2

Igor and Julia (last seen here in Budapest) just got their visas to the US and will be flying in next week from Moscow. Woo hoo! Julia has never been to the US before, Igor lived here for two years. We get to show her all the sights (Disneyland, San Diego, LA, Temecula, E3, etc.)

Naming the New Baby

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Dinner table conversation. We’re talking about the new baby coming in August.

Dad: You know, we’re just calling her Cinderella for now. Once she’s born, she’ll get her real name and it won’t be Cinderella.

Camilla: Oh. (Long pause) So, what will her real name be?

Dad: We don’t know yet. We’re thinking of a good name for her right now.

Dan-dan: Sleeping Beauty!

Jogging

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

The best days are the ones that I go jogging. Just hanging out in the backyard afterward with a glass of water, juice, dog biscuits and a couple of kids is great.

Just sayin’.

San Diego Zoo Trip

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

Our crowd of five trundled into the minivan and went to the San Diego Zoo (the original one). We don’t get there often since the Wild Animal Park is closer to us and our membership tickets (thanks, Aunt Helen!) get us into both places for free. But at 19 months, Aaron is really starting to notice the world around him, and we can get closer to animals at a real zoo, so we made the extra trip today.

Chaos at the Airport

unitedline

The photo is of the line that I was fortunately at the front of (I had no checked baggage and limited carry on luggage). Everyone here is rebooking their flight from a mechanical failure on United’s San Diego to San Francisco feeder. I was third in line, and got my ticket rebooked for a direct flight to Vancouver. Much happier.

On Saturday, we had a few guests come over (20 kids and assorted parents and grandparents) for Dan-dan’s sixth birthday.

We also had the Jolly Jumper set up in the backyard. Gabi’s roses were in bloom around the gazebo.

All of the Chris and Norma Steussy’s were able to come, including Solana!

Finally, we have a short video of the cake with candles. Things were a bit hectic at the time. I’m sure you understand.
