Veronica Update

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

Veronica had a doctor visit yesterday – 7.05 pounds. She has gained more than a pound in two weeks, so she is MUCH larger now. Still very cute.

We had a visit from “Grandma” Rose and Hunter yesterday. We had penciled in a visit with the Chris Steussy’s, but that has been canceled due to other obligations.

Snow Leopard at Steussy Ranch

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

snow_leopard_boxSnow Leopard is now installed on the main Steussy Ranch computer (a Santa Rosa Macbook Pro, upgraded to 4GB RAM, 250GB internal hard drive).

  • 11 GB of hard disk space retrieved
  • Boot time (from choosing the operating system in rEFIt – because of the computer’s triple operating systems – to having Mail and a browser ready to go) reduced from 2 minutes 51 seconds to 2 minutes 15 seconds.
  • Mail is WAY faster (there are eleven years of all personal and business email stored here).
  • Firefox has no difference.
  • Safari is WAY faster.
  • Adobe Suite CS3 works fine.
  • NTFS file format is readable (very useful for reading Windows hard disks)
  • rEFIt needs to be reblessed, but works fine.

60th Anniversary, 4th and Final

Friday, August 28th, 2009

60th_anniversary_dinnerMom just sent this photo of their 60th Anniversary dinner at Olive Garden. From left to right, Dr. Calvin Steussy, Charlie Parkinson, Ashley Parkinson, Cally Parkinson, Rich Parkinson and Gene Steussy.

The 60th Anniversary, Part Three

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

These are the roses that Cally ordered for Mom – 27 different ones – each to represent a different member of the family: Calvin, Gene, Cally, Nic, Helen, Ed, Chris, Rich, Marti, Tom, Norma, Gabi, Andy, David, Cally, Charlie, Alex, Nicky, KC, TJ (excuse me, Thomas), Bella, Calvin, Dan-dan, Camilla, Aaron, Solona and Veronica. Quite a mob.

UPDATE: Arrgh! We forgot to add spouse of the grandkids! Sorry Ashley Parkinson and Lindsey Steussy (or did Lindsey keep her maiden name?). Total of 29 now … and counting.

60th Anniversary, Part Two

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

I was just talking to Mom and Dad on the phone, and realized that I had these photos in the book they had given us at Christmas. I did a quick scan of the full family (above – missing Cally Steussy in Japan, and Solana and Veronica only), and also a better image of the original wedding (doesn’t it seem kinda lonely in comparison – there are only two of them!).

60th Wedding Anniversary

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Mom_and_Dad_WeddingToday is my parent’s 60th wedding anniversary. Wow!

Five grown children, 15 grandchildren, no great grandchildren to date (though our family tends to produce progeny relatively late in life, so great grandchildren are still rather likely to come).

Cally is taking the parents to dinner tonight in Chicago. And everyone else is phoning in or sending their congratulations in other ways.

Tunde came to visit yesterday.

The three Steussy girls. Note that Veronica’s hat is the one that we got when we brought Camilla home from the hospital four and a half years ago.

Bella and Veronica during their visit on Saturday.

Gifts arrive from Grandma Gene and Aunt Cally – for everyone!

And some comedy. Trying to get the timing right on the auto camera.

Saturday Visits

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

Yes, we had all eleven California Steussy’s (only missing Cousin Alex, who is not yet back to Occidental for the school year). Veronica is missing behind Dan-dan, but other than that it’s a good photo. Chris and family brought presents, growlers of beer, pizza (oven wouldn’t start, so they ordered a second batch) and we generally had a good visit.

These are two neighborhood girls from the next house. Alexis (on the left) is Camilla’s good friend; Dania is the older sister on the right.

Aunt Mary cued me onto this one.

9 Days Old Today

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

These are all images of Courtney and her two girls, Layla and Sofia, when they’ve come to visit over the last two days.

In the near future, we have Chris and family coming on Saturday and Tunde coming up on Sunday (sorry to miss Gisela on this one). We’ll get photos of those up over the weekend or on Monday.

Veronica is sleeping through the night, save for a single feeding. Gabi is getting more sleep than when she was pregnant. Dad is just taking pictures and updating the blog. That’s about all the news …
