I like this guy, Dan Ariely. We’ve actually adopted some of his ideas in our daily domestic budget, and they’ve worked extremely well. Credit cards = evil. There is no doubt. Video is seven minutes long.

I find my credit card to be pretty handy.
And I’m not seeing the embedded video/link.
Could be my end. I’ve got this workstation doing very heavy I/O shuffling around my 500+ GB of data. That makes this consumer hardware get squirrelly.
I was actually suprised that I could see the video. Most video feeds (youtube) are blocked by my district.
I don’t see him saying credit cards are evil he just says they limit the “pain of paying”. When you’re OK with spending money in restaurants use a card, but if you’re trying to limit the amount you spend on beer every month at Bevmo use the envelope method. Makes sense to me.
This video is an independently hosted flash video. I’ve tried to do it on this site before, but You Tube is so much easier I’ve relied on them. I’ll likely pay the price later.
We’ve move a lot of our normal, daily payments to cash, and it seriously helps the budget. You think twice before spending, and tend to spend a lot less. I gave myself a weekly cash budget for beer/wine/gin/diet coke, and found I spent a lot less with cash, without missing anything.
