Last Air Conditioner Day in Temecula

It’s the last day of running the air conditioner here in Temecula. Forecasts call for cooler temperatures during the rest of our packing adventure, so this is it.

By way of explanation, unlike my native Midwest, Temecula has a hot, dry climate. Further, there is a daily onshore breeze from the Pacific. The breeze cools the area so that even 95 degrees does not feel tremendously hot, unless you are directly beneath the sun.

Over the years, we established the routine of running the air conditioning only when temperatures are predicted over 100 degrees. Which makes this the last time to run air conditioning in the waning days of the Temecula-based Steussy Ranch.

Our previous buyer canceled only two weeks before escrow was due to close. This leaves the door open to other lucky buyers.

Some data points:

House is pre-approved for sale with the bank
All inspections have already been completed
Current owners (us, the Steussy Ranch) are still planning on moving out in mid-July
Price has been dropped from $235k to $225k

As part of selling the house, we had a roofer come to inspect some minor damage today. Before he went on the roof, I handed him my camera and asked him to take photos for us so we could see for ourselves. Here he shows us Daniel’s kite, which died several days ago. I like the photo; it shows the neighborhood at an angle we never see.

And not to mourn Daniel’s kite too much. We have two new ones that are just fine.

Gabi flies the dragon kite

We’ve resurrected an old hobby and started flying kites again. We don’t have to go far — just the cul-de-sac in front of our house. The desert in the inland parts of California heat up in the springtime, making air rise. The cooler air from the ocean is sucked in from the west. Temecula is at a sweet-point between the two, and we have reliable, strong afternoon breezes. Note: Temecula is only about fifteen miles from the coast as the bird flies. Driving will take you an hour due to intervening terrain.

After a six week absence, due to extreme work conditions, the AR Drone makes a re-appearance Sunday morning at the Steussy Ranch.

Nic’s big present to the family was this UFO-like flying machine (which I had seen and flown before, see here and here). It’s a complicated, expensive and very fragile machine – but boy is it cool when it works!

UPDATE: The drone is currently dead. Parrot customer service has quickly responded with an offer to repair. Will update as news comes in.
