Pappy’s Football Injury

August 20th, 2010

Pappy’s vet has told us that Pappy has a football injury – a torn ACL. Probably injured during a morning jog with me, we’d been encouraging Pappy to exercise when he was lame. Wrong thing to do, says the vet. He needs rest. 90 days of not chasing rabbit, no jogging and no unnecessary walking.

On a scale of 1 to 4, with 1 the least bad and 4 the worst, Pappy’s ACL is rated at 1.5. Painful, but manageable.

Summer Vacation

August 11th, 2010

Yes, I’m still here. Fixed the computer systems on Saturday, but have not posted because, HEY!, it’s summer.

Given all of our travels this summer, there was really only one week when we weren’t going somewhere or planning a trip, and it was last week. Today marks the end of that with Dan-dan going to his new school. So, expect more posts soon.

Presents on birthday

Gabi’s birthday was a great success! Here she is in the backyard, unwrapping a gift.

Retired Pappy leads Camilla on walk

Pappy, at 9 and a half years old, is now officially retired from jogging. He’s been slower and slower since February. Today, he took everyone on an off-the-leash walk through our jogging grounds. Camilla was the only one to keep up with him.

Felix, 1997 to 2010

Coincidentally, about two hours after I posted Pappy’s retirement, I learned that Felix, my brother’s dog, had passed away. Goodbye, Felix.

Back in Town

August 2nd, 2010

Yes, I’m back home now. Exhausted (and a bit behind) from all of my travel over the last two weeks. I’ll put more up soon.

Until then, one quick story. We’re riding in the car, leaving New Glarus for the Madison airport.

Daniel: “Look at all of those slow-pokes behind us.”

Camilla: “Yeah, they’re slow-pokes!”

Gabi: “Are they calling those cars slow folks?”

Ed: “No, slow-pokes. It’s a Dad-ism, he always accused other cars driving slower than him to be slow pokes. Where did they learn that?”

Gabi: “They drove with Aunt Cally to Target to get floaties one day …”

Daniel: “Yeah, and she called them slow-pokes!”

Camilla: “And she said they were crooks!”

Ed: (laughing) “I think Aunt Cally said, ‘Crocks.’ Another Calvin-ism.”

Historic Steussy Photos

In addition to the standard photos that line halls of the Freitag Farm, there was a collection of photos from Aunt Ruth. I captured quite a few of them. The one above is from somewhere else entirely, the collection of Ruth (Steussy) Rondeau of Minnesota. These photos take awhile to process, so don’t expect too many of them to show up.
